Aap Ko Dekh Kar… When Jagjit Singh Becomes a Mirror of the Heart

Listening to Jagjit Singh, when he sings:
“Aap ko dekh kar dekhta rah gaya,
Dil ko samjha ke chhupata rah gaya,
Woh mere saamne hee gaya aur mai Raaste ki taraf dekhta rah gaya,”

I feel myself suspended in a quiet storm of longing. I watch you, my heart whispering truths I dare not speak, trying to hide the way it leaps at the sight of you. And yet, even as you stand there, I turn my gaze away, pretending to look down the path, as if the world outside could shield me from this gentle storm inside.

“Aap ki aankhon mein kho gaya,
Har ek pal mein bas aap ko paya,”

It’s like being adrift in a river whose currents are your presence. I float, helpless and willing, drawn by the warmth of your gaze, feeling every heartbeat echo in the silent spaces between words. Even when I try to look away, my eyes betray me they stay, tracing you like a melody that refuses to end.

And in this quiet surrender, I realize the truth Jagjit Singh sings: some feelings are too deep for language, too tender for explanation. All that remains is to watch, to feel, and to let the song carry the heart where it cannot go on its own.
